JUNE 2010 - Deanne Belinoff, Recent Work, Mixed Media
“THE BIG PICTURE, ….. The way I see it, everything is intimately related to everything else. Scientists point to a known level of unity in all of nature that some say will be the core of the next paradigm shift in science. Networks of circles, grids, webs and punctures in this ongoing body of work may be seen as symbols for macro-connection.
Having used geometric shapes as symbols for philosophical ideas in my earlier series, the circle is of special interest to me. All celestial movement is circular. For example, the gravitational pull of the sun and moon makes the earth wobble a little bit, like a spinning top as it travels. This wobble "inscribes" an imaginary circle in the sky every 26,000 years. I like the way that this "Precession", can be seen as an immense drawing with the universe as background.
My larger works are paintings but they are not painterly. I use both traditional materials like oil paint, acrylic or graphite, paper or ,and non-traditional materials. I peel, inscribe and puncture through the surface of support panels, using dyes, oils, acrylics, and abrasives such as sandpaper, bleach, wax. I rarely use brushes.” Deanne Belinoff ............................................
