MAY 2010 - Terry Stringer, Bronze sculptureArtist Statement “The statue gazes into the world it has brought with it. There is a sense of a life lived, of adventures, perhaps even of the modeling for the artist during the making of this portrayal. This brings the studio with the figure, as an imaginary background to the work. My studio sits in countryside chosen as a setting for sculpture. I can take my work outside and place it in the garden. So a bronze figure of mine presents the current context of the gallery and also a memory of a landscape. But that was long ago When the hawk hovered over the hill And the deer lifted their heads While I am making sculpture, life happens around the studio. Things attach themselves to the sculptures in my mind. They become part of my repertory, a memory aid, and I am revisited by them when I look at the work again. A tune from the radio is implanted in a face, a story from a visitor is wrapped around the detail of a hand. And a boy lay still By the river running down, Sings Harry. Terry Stringer Zealandia 2009
